Here are answers to common Microsoft questions.
Who Can Use Microsoft 365?
Microsoft 365 software is available for free to all active NWTC students and employees. Once a student or an employee is no longer active, their Microsoft 365 account will be disabled, and any data will automatically be removed.
As an NWTC student or employee, you may install Microsoft 365 on up to five different devices. Product activation occurs automatically the first time you run Microsoft 365. Activation requires Internet connectivity.
What Software is Included?
The following Office applications are included with Microsoft 365:
- Microsoft 365 (Windows) - Access, Excel, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Teams & Word
- Microsoft 365 (Mac v10.12 or higher) - Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, OneDrive & OneNote
- Mobile Devices (iOS/Android/Windows Phone) - Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word
What are the System Requirements?
Make sure that the computer or device on which Microsoft 365 is being installed meets the supported system requirements. Microsoft 365 can be installed on the following platforms:
- Windows 10 or later versions
- One of the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new version of macOS is released, the macOS requirement becomes one of the then-current three most recent versions: the new version of macOS and the previous two versions.
- iOS 13 or higher
- Windows: Office Mobile applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar) require a supported version of Windows 10 Mobile running on a supported device.
- Android: Office for Android can be installed on tablets and phones running any of the supported versions of Android and that have an ARM-based or Intel x86 processor. Starting on July 1, 2019, support will be limited to only the last four major versions of Android.

Is a reimbursement available for students who recently purchased Microsoft 365 from WISC Software?
No, the College is unable to reimburse students who already have a subscription to Microsoft 365 or recently purchased Microsoft 365 products.
Do you need to be connected to the internet to use Microsoft 365?
No, you do not need to be connected to the Internet all the time to use Microsoft 365. However, Internet access is required when installing Microsoft 365 and at least once every 30 days so that your subscription may be verified. If you do not connect within 30 days, Microsoft 365 goes into reduced functionality mode. After you connect to the Internet and the subscription status is verified, all the features of Microsoft 365 are available again.
How are updates automatically applied?
Microsoft periodically releases critical and security updates for Microsoft 365 applications. The updates will be automatically installed over the internet.
Where can Microsoft 365 be installed?
You can install the Microsoft 365 client on up to five personal devices. Computers provided by the College will automatically have Microsoft 365 installed.
Once a new student enrolls, how long before the Office 365 download is available?
Microsoft 365 will be available within 3 hours of becoming an NWTC student. If you just completed the NWTC Account Creation process, please wait three hours before you try to log in or before contacting the NWTC Student Help Desk.
What if you already have an old version of Microsoft 365 installed?
The Microsoft 365 client provided by NWTC may not be compatible with existing Microsoft Office products or older versions. If you encounter an error message, you will need to uninstall the Microsoft software listed in the error report before continuing.

The Microsoft 365 service is provided by NWTC free of charge. However, the College cannot provide technical support for students' and employees' personal computers. No warranties are provided with this free service, and NWTC accepts no responsibility for the operation of the software on personal computers and mobile devices.
