Starfish is an early alert academic performance system designed to make it easy to let you know when you are doing well, and when there are areas of concern to get you back on track. Check your my.NWTC email and Starfish frequently for updates from the people who want you to succeed!
To access Starfish, log into Blackboard Learn and click on the Starfish link at the top of the Welcome Page screen.
In addition to feedback, Starfish allows you to schedule appointments with the people at the College who are part of your Success Network. It is also used by employees to refer you to services that can help you become more successful.
Flag = When there is an academic concern or your instructor believes that there may be additional resources that may support your learning a flag may be raised. An email will be generated and sent to your NWTC email voicing the instructor’s concern and giving some directions on what should happen for you to be successful. If your instructor raises a flag, make the time to connect with her/him (in person, via email, or by telephone) to determine what you can do to improve your academic performance. Completing a plan of action (for example, no additional unexcused absences) is enough to lower a flag.
Kudos = When you deserves special recognition for improvement or good work, your instructor may send Kudos to boost your confidence and show that you are on the right path.
Referral = When your instructor tells you to visit an NWTC support service to get additional assistance outside of the classroom. Referrals are great ways to connect students with resources!
