Answer

Students may incur daily overdue fines for some equipment or materials that are returned or renewed after their due date.

If items become long overdue, students will also be charged the full replacement fee (based on the cost of the item). If they return billed items within a reasonable time period, the replacement fee may be waived.

Grades will be withheld and registration delayed if items are not returned and fines are not paid. Students will not be allowed to borrow additional materials or equipment until all blocks have been cleared from their account.

Overdue Fines

  • Most books, videos, and magazines will auto-renew up to three times for students if no one else is waiting. If these materials are returned before students are billed for replacement, no overdue fines will be charged.
  • However, students may receive overdue fines of $1.00 per day per piece for equipment and restricted materials that are kept past the due date.

Long Overdue Items

  • The full replacement cost of the item is charged after it has been overdue for too long (based on the item type and collection).
  • If the item is returned within a reasonable time period, the replacement cost may be waived if the item has not been removed from the Library's catalog by that time. However, accrued overdue fines would still need to be paid.

Overdue notices are sent via email after the due date. Fines accrue daily. Students are not billed until the materials have reached the point of being long overdue. Students will see the total due by signing into their Library account and then on their NWTC student portal account later. Students can pay for fines online through the student portal.

The Library Manager is able to waive some fines for extenuating circumstances, but the minimum fee for instances of lost materials is $25.00.
