Answer
If your research paper assignment is to write an argumentative paper or pick a controversial topic, a great place to start is the Current, Controversial Topics Library Research Guide.
The first two links you see, SIRS and Opposing Viewpoints, are resources that contain mini research guides on a long list of current, controversial topics. You can browse the topics alphabetically or by subject category. Each topic guide contains hundreds of full-text articles (from newspapers, magazines, and scholarly journals) and full-text book chapters.

You might also want to check out the Library's new Research Skills Tutorial. The first module, Getting Started with Research, includes tutorials and videos on choosing and narrowing your topic.
