Common Office 365 Questions
Who is entitled to Office 365?
This service is provided free of charge to all active NWTC students and employees. Students will have access to the service in accordance with the Student Account Lifecycle Policy. Once a student is no longer active the Office 365 service will no longer be available and the student account including any data will be automatically removed.
As an NWTC student or employee you are entitled to install Microsoft Office on up to five different devices. Product activation occurs automatically the first time you run Office 365. Activation requires Internet connectivity.
What Products are included?
The following Office applications are included with Microsoft Office 365:
Office 2016 (Windows) - Access 2016, Excel 2016, OneDrive (standard), Outlook 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Publisher 2016, Word 2016
Office 2016 (Mac v10.12 or higher) - Excel 2016, Outlook 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Word 2016
Mobile Devices (iOS/Android/Windows Phone) - Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Word
What are the System Requirements?
Make sure that the computer or device on which Office 365 is being installed meet the supported system requirements. Office 365 can be installed on the following platforms:
- WINDOWS - Windows 7 or Later
- Mac OS X 10.12 or higher is required for Office 2016
- iOS 8.0 or higher
- Android KitKat 4.4 or later and have an ARM-based or Intel x86 processor
- Microsoft Edge
- Internet Explorer 11

Is a reimbursement available for students who recently purchased Microsoft Office from WISC Software?
No, the College is unable to reimburse students who already have a subscription to Office 365 or recently purchased Microsoft Office.
Do you need to be connected to the internet to use Office 365?
No, you do not need to be connected to the Internet all the time to use Office 365. However, Internet access is required when installing Office and at least once every 30 days so that your subscription may be verified. If you do not connect within 30 days, Office 365 goes into reduced functionality mode. After you connect to the Internet and the subscription status is verified, all the features of Office 365 are available again.
How are updates automatically applied?
Microsoft periodically releases critical and security updates for Microsoft Office applications. The updates will be automatically installed over the internet – https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn761707.aspx.
Where can Microsoft Office 365 be installed?
With Office 365 you can install the Microsoft Office client on up to 5 personal devices. You may not install the software on an NWTC owned computer. Computers provided by the College will automatically have Microsoft Office installed.
Once a new student enrolls, how long before the Office 365 download is available?
Office 365 will be available within 3 hours of becoming an NWTC student. If you just completed the NWTC Account Creation Process please wait three hours before you try to login or before contacting the NWTC Student Help Desk.
What if you already have an old version of Microsoft Office installed?
The Microsoft Office client provided NWTC may not be compatible with existing Microsoft Office products or older versions. If you encounter an error message similar to the one shown below you would need to uninstall the Microsoft software listed in the error report before you can continue.
How do you get help with my Student User Name and Password?
Which Office 365 Services are unavailable?
The following services are not available through Office 365 at this time: Email, Project, Skype, Sway, and SharePoint.

No warranties are provided with this free service and NWTC accepts no responsibility for operation of the software on personal computers and mobile devices.
