To start off a PDF is a document type and JPG is an image file. So generally speaking a PDF is going to be a document that is created from a Word type document and a JPG is going to be a photograph. Although, a PDF is more of a universelly accepted format in which a image file, like a JPG, could be converted into a PDF.
